Investigating pausology of lower-intermediate and skilled EFL learners’ writing and its relation to writing genres: A keystroke logging study

Writing has been a challenging skill for EFL learners to master since they need learn not only lexical and grammatical resources but also planning idea presentation in different genres. In this regard, pausological details of piece writing (i.e., where when the pauses take place) can provide bulk information about learner’s behavior. The present study was, therefore, conducted examine pause duration location lower-intermediate skilled learners' their relation For collection data, 20 (10 10 advanced) took part study. Using keystroke logging, tasks on five genres descriptive, personal narrative, argumentative, persuasive text, as well job application, were given participants. recorded data included percentage (within words, before sentence, paragraph) L2 writers. statistical analysis indicated that although there was no significant difference between two groups regarding overall means genres, advanced group had higher application writing. Moreover, differences types locations found groups. Practical implications education are further discussed.
